Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a classic and rare 1960's era Shure Brothers SM33 model ribbon microphone with a period Shure metal mic case in which to store the mic. This is a very cool combo / package and great for studio use, broadcasting and singing. It should be noted right away that while this microphone has it's original ribbon and all components... The element is compromised and has a weaker signal.

The output is only about 50% and will need a proper rebuild. This should only be used as a prop, display or repair mic.

If you choose to have it repaired professionally it will be an outstanding studio piece. Absolutely the nicest SM33 I have personally ever seen but this is only the 3rd I have ever come across so that should tell you how hard these are to come by. There is a gentleman who owns a company called ENAK based out of New Jersey that can get this up and running for a very reasonable price.

Pic # 2 is from an early Shure catalog showing the mics basic specs. Before the SM33 was called that it was the 333. Not sure what year Shure Brothers changed the model number but they are both the same in every aspect having the adjustable sound setting for vocals and Music.

It should be noted that adjustment lever works perfectly fine. The SM33 was just one of a few models introduced in the 1950's from Shure Brothers.

This was the uni-directional design as where the 315 model was strictly bi-directional. The 330 and SM33 utilized the same design and had harder, more masculine lines than the 315. Slightly more Italian deco in design.

An absolutely beautiful piece of artwork really. This was a state of the art, quality mic for it's era. Many of these examples still work very well even today. The SM33 was the rarest of the three models and was a favorite on The Johnny Carson show for several years as seen in pic # 3. The Shure SM33 / 333 was made from about 1950 to the mid 1970's before being discontinued. A good 20 + year run and its really too bad they stopped making it as it was without a doubt one of their finest mics ever.

This SM33 came with the beefy lower shock mount that was designed to absorb impacts that would otherwise give the mic unwanted feedback while live. The shock mount works like new with zero lean and there is plenty of tension. This mic takes a standard female XLR cable which is not included.

The SM33 was a special mic in that it was one of the very few early American mics to incorporate the XLR attachment as in 1950's the XLR cable was almost unheard of. Shure was way ahead of the game with this microphone.

As seen in the pics provided this mic shows almost no cosmetic wear. It's an absolutely beautiful example and was well taken care of. The satin chrome on the mics screen shows no scuff marks, scratches or dents. The joint mechanism holds strong and the black Shure label looks pretty good.

Overall this mic is a conservative 9 +++ on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking. The period Shure metal mic case is included in this sale.. The case is quite beautiful and shows a minimum of wear.

Just a few small scratches and nicks and has the Shure logo on the top lid. The original paint is quite lovely and two new foam pads were installed as the originals were all but gone. This hard to come by case will keep the mic safe and snug as it belongs when not in actual use. A great accessory for this mic and the locking mechanism works excellent. Again, a very good combo package to have re-ribboned or simply display this anywhere in the home, office or studio. As with all my vintage microphones.. I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.

Simply return in the same nice condition... INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...
